Step-by-step guide to tying a Wobble fly

Step 1

To start select the correct size wobbler for the hook, thread the wobbler onto the hook and attach the thread.

Step 2

Bend the wobbler so that the front is under the eye of the hook and the tag end can be whipped down. You can add super glue to help fix the bib.

Step 3

When the wobbler is wrapped down onto the hook it pays to bend the hook shank as shown. This helps to balance the fly and prevent the fly spinning.

Step 4

Wind the thread down to the bend of the hook. If you need a tail tie it in and tie in a strip of plastazote foam of one colour.

Reverse hook in the vice and tie in another colour of plastazote foam..

Step 6

Wind the thread forward on the hook shank, fold the foam downwards and tie in with a couple of wraps..

Step 7

Do the same with the other colour foam on the underside. Then wind the thread forwards (towards the hook eye).

Repeat the whole procedure as in Step 7 and continue to work forwards.

Tie in and trim the foam.

Finally whip finish and add super glue or head cement.
